Coverage Calculator | Determine the Amount of Mulch Needed

# Coverage Calculator

## How much rubber mulch do I need?

Use this calculator to determine how much rubber mulch you need for your project. You can then determine the total number of pallets you'll need from the total number or lbs you need for you project. See the heading below for tips on calculating square footage.

Note: This calculator will determine the volume of rubber mulch based on the uncompacted installation depth. Also, we do have critical fall height information available for playground use. There are a few factors that come into play when determining the correct fall height so please contact us about that and we'd be happy to get that information to you

Recommended Rubber Mulch Depths:
Landscape: 1” - 2”
Residential Playground: 4” - 6”
Commercial Playground: 6" (Certified at 6" depth)

## How do I calculate the square footage of my area?

A square foot is a unit of area measurement equal to a square measuring one foot on each side.

Simple Rectangular Areas: A rectangle is the easiest shape to determine the total square footage of. You simply take the length multiplied by the width to determine the total square feet. If your play or landscape area is a rectangle then you're all set. Just use this formula to determine the total square footage of your area:

L (length in feet) x W (width in feet) = sqft (total square feet).

Complex Areas: If your play or landscape area is a more complex shape, the easiest thing to do is divide the area into smaller rectangles, calculate the area of those rectangles using the formula above, then add all the rectangles together for the total square footage of the area. This won't be an exact measurement but it will get you pretty close. See the diagram below to illustrate this method. What to do with the sqft measurement? Once you have determined the total sqft of your area just plug it into the calculator above which will then give you the total lbs you'll need for your project. You can then determine the total number of pallets you'll need to order.
