How much mulch do I need?

Use this chart to determine how much rubber mulch you need for your project.

Mulch Depth Coverage (Square Feet Covered per 75 cubic foot pallet)
9" 100 sq ft
8" 112 sq ft
7" 128 sq ft
6" 150 sq ft
5" 180 sq ft
4" 225 sq ft
3" 300 sq ft
2" 450 sq ft
1.5" 600 sq ft

We recommend a 6" mulch depth for the commercial playgrounds we offer.  For critical fall height documents and information please contact us and we can provide them to you.

How do I calculate the square footage of my area?

A square foot is a unit of area measurement equal to a square measuring one foot on each side.

Simple Rectangular Areas: A rectangle is the easiest shape to determine the total square footage of. You simply take the length multiplied by the width to determine the total square feet. If your playground or landscape area is a rectangle then you’re all set. Just use this formula to determine the total square footage of your area:

L (length in feet) x W (width in feet) = sqft (total square feet).

Complex Areas: If your play or landscape area is a more complex shape, the easiest thing to do is divide the area into smaller rectangles, calculate the area of those rectangles using the formula above, then add all the rectangles together for the total square footage of the area. This won’t be an exact measurement but it will get you pretty close. See the diagram below to illustrate this method.
